TRAIN THE TRAINERS - Discipleship Seminar
By Sis. Lhiz Arnigo
The program started with the praise and worship led by Sis. Alona Jimenez then followed by the ten-minute presentation of Sis. Marlyn Fortus. She presented a video clip of Christina Batalla’s testimony of CCF, Philippines, focusing on the importance of small group. Sis Marlyn used this illustration to accentuate the importance of one-to-one mentoring which would eventually grow into a group. Likewise, she emphasized the need of “change of thinking” to avoid unrealistic expectations of the new mentoring program. She also encouraged everyone to fully embrace this initiative, underlining the word “patience” to all who will take their accord into it.
Furthermore, Pastor Romy Salvante gave his best shot as he gave the general idea of what is to be anticipated in this seminar. He presented to everyone the content of the material that was handed to the first fifty early attendees and introduced it as the tool for discipleship; exhibiting its curriculum, introduction, its Biblical Model for Spiritual Parenting and the need for its use. The tool got three phases: Understanding the Christian Life, Discipler Training and Amplified Discipleship Concepts. The second phase prompted inquisitive attitude from the attendees that was handled by the speaker with intellectual composure, for their responses displayed eagerness to learn from this training; aiming to maintain both the quantitative and qualitative edge among them.
In addition, officers from the CLASS successfully “tranquillize” everyone in its positive sense as they did their icebreaker dubbed as “Connect the Dot.” It made the crowd fail to keep their different reactions under their hats.
Pastor Butch Estacio inspired everyone with his presentation on how to have a Christ-like life for one to be called as discipler, drawing attention to the character transformation, targeting and seeking God’s choice. He became hardnosed also with his presentation on how to spot the potential disciples. He advised everyone to look for someone who has spiritual hunger, teachable attitude and dependability.
Accordingly, Pastor Freddie presented a challenge to everyone’s commitment when it comes to discipleship. He painted a clear picture of today’s encouragement to the church to get involved to the disciple-making task by exhibiting some figures that could be attained to if each member will win one person each and everyday of the year.
The radical message of Pastor Butch of “Christ-like life” and the challenges and supports presented by Pastor Freddie which have to be acted upon would certainly create a big difference in the advancement of God’s kingdom. Rather than creating “just another program” in the church, God led BCF to capture a new vision for disciple making, and follow the biblical example of investing the members’ lives in relationship with others who seek to follow Jesus fully. By God’s grace, as BCF becomes fully serious of putting the principles into action, the transformed lives will lead to transformed congregations, which will ultimately show the world what the kingdom of God must look like.
May God bless BCF in this endeavor
